General Laborers Local 307 merged to form Construction
and General Laborers Local 351.

Mason Tenders
Local Union 388 was established January 1, 1991 in order
to respond to the Tidewater, Virginia area Masonry Contractors'
need for a dedicated, single-source Masonry Local. The Local
was chartered by the Laborers' International Union of North
America on April 3, 1992.
The members of Mason Tenders Local
388 have left a large footprint on the Tidewater area construction
industry. They have been involved in the construction of
some of the largest building projects in the area including
schools, retail buildings, office buildings, industrial,
and projects on most of the military bases in the area.
Local 388 members have been involved with the masonry work
on large-scale projects such as MacArthur Mall, the linchpin
for the revitalization of Downtown Norfolk.
In April 2001, Construction and General
Laborers' Local 789 was merged with Mason Tenders Local
388 broadening the scope of Local 388's jurisdiction
to include not just masonry in the Richmond, Virginia area,
but general construction work as well. Local 388 is a diverse
local of more than 200 members with a large geographical

01, 2004 - By proclamation, Governor Mark R. Warner
appointed Virginia/North Carolina District Council Business
Manager Robert "Bobby" Myers chairman of the Governor's
Workforce Development Panel. The 21 member panel will include
representatives from Labor, Contractors, Business and the
Education sectors. The panels primary objective will be
to develop more effective paths for workers looking to pursue
a career in the construction industry. |
